SafeZone Regional Meeting at Leeds University

On Wednesday, 29th January, CriticalArc held a highly engaging and informative regional meeting at Leeds University, bringing together current and prospective customers to explore a variety of thought-provoking topics and discussions.

A Warm Welcome & Product Updates

The event kicked off with a warm welcome from Geoff Brown, Head of Community & Campus Safety at the University of Leeds. His opening remarks set the tone for a day filled with knowledge-sharing and interactive discussions on safety operations, best practices, and compliance.

Attendees got a deep-dive on the latest enhancements to SafeZone and what it can do for their organizations. There was even a sneak preview on some exciting new tools which are coming soon! SafeZone in Action

One of the highlights of the event was a demonstration of SafeZone in action, showcasing how the platform can be leveraged for:

  • Mass alerts & communication, ensuring swift and efficient information dissemination.
  • Emergency response simulations, emphasising the role of SafeZone in crisis scenarios.
  • Co-ordinating safety operations, illustrating the seamless management of incidents through the platform.


Breakout Sessions

Attendees had the opportunity to participate in two focused breakout sessions:

Breakout 1: Operational Training

This session provided hands-on training on optimising response co-ordination tools, including:

  • OmniGuard
  • Responder messaging
  • General incident management


Breakout 2: SafeZone for Compliance

Discussions centered around how SafeZone supports compliance efforts, particularly in:

  • Lone worker safety – ensuring the most vulnerable and high-risk individuals receive adequate support.
  • Visa compliance – addressing legal requirements for international students and travellers.


A Networking Lunch (And Delicious Brownies!)

During the lunch break, attendees had the chance to network, discuss insights from the sessions, and, of course, enjoy some delicious brownies—a small but memorable highlight of the day!

Maximising SafeZone Through Collaboration

The afternoon featured an engaging panel discussion moderated by Tom Krupp, VP of Customer Experience at CriticalArc. The discussion focused on how long-standing SafeZone customers successfully:

  • Engage students & staff in using the platform.
  • Empower staff to promote a culture of safety.
  • Find SafeZone champions within their organisations to foster adoption.
  • Utilise student unions & departmental heads to encourage SafeZone’s widespread use.


A Fun & Insightful SafeZone Showcase

The day wrapped up with an entertaining and informative showcase, featuring Gerry Moore and his unforgettable orange traffic cone hat. He’s found that his light-hearted approach helps break the ice and reinforce the importance of making safety initiatives engaging.

During this session, attendees discussed how:

  • Glasgow University uses SafeZone to support international travellers and visa compliance.
  • Manchester Metropolitan University has optimised first aid workflows and automated second-tier responder management to enhance efficiency.


Final Thoughts

CriticalArc’s regional meeting at Leeds University was a fantastic opportunity for attendees to deepen their understanding of SafeZone, share best practices, and explore innovative ways to enhance safety and compliance.
